John Mayer Maps Battle Studies Tour
With John Mayer’s Battle Studies coming on November 17, the singer/guitarist has mapped out a tour beginning February 8 in Charleston, SC. The tour will feature special guest Michael Franti & Spearhead and will run through April 10 in Chicago. Furthermore, the Fuse network announced that their Fuse Presents: John Mayer Live From the Beacon Theatre concert broadcast will now be shown overseas to U.S. troops via AFN, The Armed Forces Network, to reach those stationed in 175 countries and on 140 U.S. Navy ships at sea. Mayer’s performance will air live on Fuse on November 17 at 9 p.m. and will be simulcast live that night via AFN Radio. Additionally, AFN Television’s Spectrum channel will air the concert on December 6 at 8 p.m. and on New Year’s Eve.
Meanwhile, Mayer is gearing up for a number of other TV performances as well. He will play his current single, “Who Says” on the Today show on November 19. Later that night, Mayer will perform on The Late Show with David Letterman as both a sit-in artist with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra and as the show’s musical guest, before performing a post-show fan concert that will stream live on Letterman’s website. That concert will remain online through the beginning of the Battle Studies tour. Other television appearances are planned for December, including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Jay Leno Show and Larry King Live.

John Mayer is a very busy artist these days. His new album – “Battle Studies” – drops Nov. 17 and he kicks off his U.S. tour in February. As if that isn’t enough, he’s making several TV appearances this month. Dare we say “Mayer… mania?”
Let’s cut right to the chase and talk about the February through April tour, which also features special guest Michael Franti & Spearhead. It begins Feb. 8 in North Charleston, S.C. at the No. Charleston Coliseum. Nov. 9 shows the tour touching down in Birmingham for a gig at the BJCC Arena and Feb. 10 is Nashville at the Sommet Center.
Other stops include Auburn Hills (Detroit), Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Memphis, and just about every city you’d expect a major outing like this one to hit, including Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta and New Orleans. Last stop on the schedule is April 10 in Chicago at the United Center.
Described as “confessional, relaxed and liberated,” Battle Studies is Mayer’s fourth studio album, although the artist began recording the tracks in the private home he was living and working in. Mayer eventually finished the album at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.
Mayer has lined up some high-level television exposure taking place around the time of Battle Studies’ release, including appearances on two separate networks on the same day.
Mayer will begin Nov. 19 with an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show where he’ll perform his current single, “Who Says.” The artist closes out the same day by heading over to CBS for a gig on “The Late Show With David Letterman,” during which he’ll appear as the program’s musical guest as well as sit in with Paul Shaffer and the band.
But there’s more to appearing on Letterman’s show than playing a song or two and jamming with Shaffer. Mayer will perform in a post-show fan concert which will stream online. Other TV show appearances on Mayer’s calendar include “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “The Jay Leno Show” and “Larry King Live.”
Mayer’s TV agenda isn’t limited to audiences in the U.S. Music cable channel Fuse announced it will broadcast “Fuse Presents: John Mayer Live From The Beacon Theatre” to U.S. troops and their families overseas via the American Forces Network (AFN). The concert is also set to air live on Fuse Nov. 17, and AFN Television’s Spectrum channel Dec. 6 and on New Year’s Eve.
But back to the tour. Tickets for the “Battle Studies” tour go on sale to the general public Nov. 21. Of course, there are a few pre-sale moments you should be aware of.
Like the pre-sale for American Express cardholders, which runs Nov. 16-20. There’s also a pre-sale for fans who preorder Battle Studies now through Nov. 10 at Mayer’s website.
